Day 1 Depart the UK. Day 2 Arrive in Nairobi. You will be met by your private vehicle and driver and commence your safari by driving north to Sweetwaters, based in the Ol Pejeta Private reserve. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax, until your afternoon game drive when you get your first true taste of safari. Day 3 After breakfast set off north to the Samburu National Park, arriving at your lodge - the Samburu Serena - in time for lunch. Relax and spend the rest of the afternoon viewing game. On the banks of the life-giving Uaso Nyiro River and the adjoining game reserve elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and the more common savannah game are to be found. Day 4 A full day spent in the Samburu/Buffalo Springs National Reserves, with morning and afternoon game drives. Samburu National Reserve lies on the hot and arid fringes of the vast northern region of Kenya. It lies within the lands of the colourful Samburu tribe and because of the terrain is home to wildlife species rarely found elsewhere, including Grevys zebra, gerenuk gazelle, oryx, reticulated giraffe and the Somali ostrich. Some of these species are so well adapted to the dry area that they can go for long periods of time without water, surviving only on moisture obtained from their food. Elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah and the more common savannah game are all abundant here. One of the main features of the area is the Uaso Nyiro River, with its large population of crocodile. Day 5 Continue to Mountain Lodge, a Tree Lodge situated deep in the forest. Throughout the day and night forest animals visit the waterhole and saltlick, ensuring plenty to see and photograph. Day 6 Drive to Lake Nakuru, a large alkaline lake on the bed of the great rift valley. It has earnt its fame as the home of one of the greatest bird spectacles in the world- a myriad of more than one million pink flamingo, which seasonally use its waters to feed on the abundant algae which thrive in its warm waters. At lake Nakuru there is also a good chance of seeing Rhino. Continue to your lodge situated at Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake and famed for its beauty. Day 7 Morning departure heading across the floor of The Great Rift Valley to the Masai Mara. Here you will encounter prides of lion resting in the shade of acacia trees or lying low in the tall grass, in wait for their next prey. There is also a good chance of spotting cheetah and if you are lucky, the shy leopard. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Keekorok Lodge. Optional upgrade to the Karen Blixen Camp. Day 8 Spend early morning and afternoon game viewing with lunch and a siesta at your lodge. In the evening it is time for a well-deserved shower and a refreshing drink before dinner. The Masai Mara National Reserve is justly one of the best-known wildlife areas in Kenya. Here herds of elephants browse among rich, tree-studded grasslands. Thomsons gazelles, zebra, eland and many more species of savannah game offer a rich choice for the predatory lions, leopards and cheetahs that hunt in the reserve and the surrounding areas. Day 9 After a morning game drive and your breakfast you return to Nairobi, arriving in time for your flight back to the UK. Day 10 Arrive UK. |
