Zanzibar Serena Inn

Address:   Stone Town, Zanzibar, Tanzania

Zanzibar is legendary for its deep blue waters and white sands. Its picturesque villages seem to exist with one foot in Tanzania’s exotic past. People live very simply here. On Zanzibar’s pristine beaches the peaceful rhythm of life is punctuated by the sound of waves and gentle breezes.

The Zanzibar Serena Inn is a beachfront resort, in historic Stone Town, on the Zanzibar coast. The sea-view rooms really evoke a sense of romance and a connection to Zanzibar’s past by overlooking turquoise waters and the odd dhow sailing past.

The luxurious Zanzibar Serena Inn consists of two historic buildings overlooking the Indian Ocean. The buildings have been painstakingly restored, preserving the original, rich, Arabic craftsmanship. Outstanding hospitality infuses the hotel ensuring all travellers feel welcome and comfortable.

Each of the 51 rooms is well appointed with traditional artwork from Zanzibar’s exotic past. The woodwork is intricately carved, and the cool tile floors are composed of beautiful mosaics. The rooms are characterised by high ceilings and royal-blue and white Swahili touches. All rooms feature exquisite views of the turquoise Indian Ocean.

Modern comforts are not neglected at the Zanzibar Serena. All guest rooms feature air-conditioning, Wi-fi, and satellite television. Hotel guests can enjoy the beautiful beach, or relax and enjoy refreshments around the hotel’s pool.

Guests of the Zanzibar Serena can taste a piece of Zanzibar’s “Spice Island” past at the resort’s many restaurants. The Baharia Restaurant offers Swahili and international cuisine. Fresh seafood is served at the open-air Terrace Restaurant against a backdrop of the azure sea. The poolside Mdele Coffee Shop is a great place to enjoy traditional Swahili coffee, fresh pastries, and other beverages and snacks all day long. Guests can cool off with a drink after a long day exploring the historic streets of Stone Town, and catch some traditional Taarab orchestra music at the Masahani Bar.

The hotel’s friendly staff are happy to recommend and arrange excursions for its guests. Tours of Stone Town, scuba diving at world class dive sites, dhow trips to remote islands, dolphin and humpback whale watching, excursions to wildlife reserves, and traditional Swahili feasts are just some of the events that they can arrange daily.

The hotel spares no detail in providing romantic wedding and honeymoon packages. Every whim from receptions, beach ceremonies, honeymoon suites, and banquets can be arranged by the hotel.

The Zanzibar Serena prides itself in being Eco-conscious and socially responsible. The hotel works with the local community to provide jobs, and they support everything from traditional arts and crafts to orphanages, schools, and community medical centres. The Inn reduces its own ecological footprint where ever possible and uses fresh, local ingredients.

The Zanzibar Serena Inn is the perfect base for exploring the history and culture of Zanzibar or simply getting away from it all to one of the most idyllic places on the planet.
