The Serengeti Sopa Lodge is built on a small escarpment, surrounded by a small acacia wood, and offers long views out over the Serengeti. It is also one of the best places in East Africa to witness the annual wildebeest migration.
In total the Serenegti Sopa offers 69 rooms, each tastefully decorated and furnished using local materials, fabrics and pictures. Each room has a private verandah with comfortable chairs to allow some private game-viewing from the comfort of your own room.
Serengeti is Swahili for "endless plains", and you will be able to enjoy an endless, breathtaking view of these plains from the Serengeti Sopa.
The Serengeti Sopa maintains high standards that repeat visitors to Tanzania appreciate, and that amaze the first time traveler. All who come here are delighted with the courteous attentive staff and large, immaculate rooms. Many are surprised to find a fast Internet connection for those times you need to keep in touch with the outside world. A guest will feel only one step away from nature when they walk into the lobby and reception area of the lodge. Earth tone colours cover the walls and the driftwood chairs, and low, wooden, ceiling beams mimic a camp atmosphere. Colourful pillows and cushions add warmth and pizazz to the lounge area as well as the guest rooms. Glass windows are everywhere, bringing the magnificent view to you as you rest following your latest game drive.
Try to imagine this scene - you have just arrived at the Serengeti Sopa after the drive from Arusha, perhaps having stopped at Lake Manyara National Park. Coming in, exhilarated, but tired, you are greeted by a smiling staff member who hands you a cool cloth to wipe the dust off, and immediately follows up with a refreshing drink of fruit juice. Then you are taken to your room, which you find to be comfortable and spacious, with two queen-size beds, and a veranda, facing the vast Serengeti, with chairs and a coffee table to place that evening drink as you watch the sunset. Meals in the open, light dining hall offer a bounteous buffet feast each meal. In the mornings the chefs can cook an omelet according to your wishes. It is a pretty special place.
There are certain activities that are almost traditional for the visitor who wants to experience their safari to the fullest. If at all possible, take the hot air balloon ride, which ascends over the plains at daybreak. The almost silent flight of your bright balloon will see you looking down on zebras and giraffes beginning their daily grazing, and, if you are very lucky, glimpsing a pride of lions in the kopjes. While at the Sopa, be sure to sign up for sundowners with canapes to enjoy in the evening as you watch a blazing sun go down. These unique opportunities provide lasting memories, the ones that will surely tantalize you into returning to the land of the endless plains.
