The Mara Simba lodge is beautifully located on the banks the Talek river and overlooks the Masai Mara Reserve in South West Kenya. Its open restaurant and bar area has split level verandahs that look out over the river and the resident hippos. At nighttime the river banks are floodlit for some nocturnal game viewing.

The lodge has landscaped gardens as well as a swimming pool to relax in when not out and about or on a game drive. The rooms are arranged in clusters of 6, and all have private verandahs/balconies with views out over the river.

In total there are 84 rooms, each with an ensuite bathroom. The public areas are also very tranquil and atmospheric. The dining area has a soaring makuti roof which helps keep guests cool during the hot season. The cedar wood floors all add to the charm and authenticity of the lodge.

The location of the lodge, near to the south-east border of the reserve allows for some excellent game drives. As well as river habitats which can be visited either up or down stream, it is a short game drive to the open plains of the Masai Mara and a view of the African savannah that is so evocative. Lion and cheetah wait for a passing meal, and leopards prowl the scrub and thin forest looking for food.

Optional activities included guided safari walks, as well as bush meals taken out under the amazing canopy of African stars.
