Kwando Lebala Camp

Address:   Linyanti Wetlands, Botswana

This lovely camp is surrounded by vast plains and wonderful scenery. The entire camp has superb views of the expansive tracts of wilderness and wetlands that are part of the Kwando-Linyanti flood plain system.

The spacious tents are built on raised decks and each is set back amongst the trees for total seclusion. Each tent is elegantly furnished in Rhodesian teak and has an en-suite bathroom which leads to an open-air shower. Each tent has a large deck with a superb views making this one of the finest wilderness camps in Africa.

The lounge, bar and dining areas are all under thatch. Mouth-watering fare is prepared by the chefs and is served in the open-sided dining room. After dinner there is a camp fire lit around which you can sit and sip coffee or a nightcap. As you drift off to sleep, you will often hear hippo grazing out of water near your tent and other animals wandering through.

Stretched over 550,000 acres in the southern portion of Kwando wilderness, the Kwando Lebala Camp is one spectacular destination in Botswana. Located towards the southern side of the Kwando Reserve, Lebala is adjacent to the Linyanti marshes, which forms a natural boundary between Namibia and Botswana. With the beautiful rivers and the gorgeous landscape with the verdant grasslands, Kwando Lebala Camp boasts some of the most popular and unique picturesque spots of the region. The term Lebala signifies wide open spaces as per the Setswana dialect; while visiting Kwando Lebala Camp, you will be amazed by the scenery of vast plains with the scattered palm trees and the adjacent wooded savannahs. However, the wild expanse is very well contrasted with the casual elegance and lavishness of the Kwando Lebala camp.

Kwando Lebala Camp is comprised of 8 luxurious tents offering numerous amenities for the guests. These camps on Zimbabwe teak deck are designed to offer the best and expansive views of the hinterland and rivers. Each tent has a spacious bedroom and separate bathroom with a luxurious Victorian ball and claw bath tub, outside reeded shower, double basin and a dressing area. Each of the bathrooms has hot water facility provided all through the week. Every tent has its own private deck. The camp has meal plans, which includes three meals per day along with choice of drinks such as alcoholic drinks, wines and other beverages. The camp also has a small plunge pool and complimentary laundry services for the guests.

At Lebala Camp, most of the activities are the open vehicle game drives and the waling safaris. Guests also like the game walks at the guides' discretion to check the local elephants. In addition, Lebala Camp also offers off-road and night game drives.

At Kwando Lebala, the major predators include the lions, leopards and cheetahs. It has one of the highest elephant populations in Southern Africa. Other wild animals such as hyenas and wild dogs are also regularly sighted. To watch a diverse species of birds, you should choose to visit the reed and papyrus swamps. To see the nocturnal species such as civet, spotted genet, honey badger and spring hare, you should go on the night drives. You can also see some nocturnal birds such as owls at Lebala camp.
