Kanana Camp

Address:   Kanana Tract, Okavango Delta, Botswana

Kanana Camp sits in a beautiful location in a grove of ebony, acacia and sausage Trees. It is on the Kanana tract of the world-famous Okavango Delta, a central area which includes a series of small islands in the Xudum River. These islands are covered in grass with occasional fig and palm trees which are ideal for the predators who proliferate in the area.

Small and intimate, this exclusive camp offers luxury safari accommodation to a maximum of 16 guests in 8 luxury safari tents. These large safari-style tents are built up on platforms to give excellent views out over the surrounding countryside and floodplains. All have en suite bathrooms. The central dining room and sitting area are also raised and supported around an huge old fig tree. Professionally managed menus include fresh bread baked daily and fresh vegetables all prepared by excellent chefs. It is a wonderful camp from which to enjoy one of Africas most beautiful landscapes and safari holiday experiences.

Kanana Camp offer guests the opportunity for an up-close, intimate view of Botswana’s unspoiled, beautiful Okavango Delta. The camp is a delightful contrast in elegant yet simple accommodations. There is no radio, or television and no cell phone coverage is available.

Guests sleep in tents, yet the tents would put the safaris of old to shame. The tents are situated on wooden decks and have solid wooden frames and although covered with canvas they appear more like chalets then tents. Each tent has its own veranda facing the waterway and floodplains that border the camp. Never has roughing it felt so good! The rooms are comfortable, with wide beds made up with comfortable linens and attractive duvets. Mesh windows and brass floor fans keep the rooms cool, and mosquito netting protects guests from being nibbled on. The front of each tent is mesh with a zipper closure.

Surprisingly, each tent has its own en suite bathroom with walls and entrance made of the same canvas as the rest of the tent. This is no camp latrine type facility but a real flushing toilet, shower and washstand with mirror. Complementary laundry service is provided.

Those who appreciate a slow pace can take a Mokoro (dug-out canoe) safari, a bush walk, fish or star gaze into a sky unpolluted by city lights. The peace and quiet are interrupted only by the sounds of animals in the wild, your guide's soft voice or the almost inaudible sound of an oar dipping into the water as your experience nature in a profoundly intimate and breathtaking manner. There is no crush of humanity here to break the spell; you are in the wild and feel like a natural part of the environment rather then a rude intruder.

Botswana is a bird lover’s paradise, and Kanana Camp is fortunate to have an exclusive heronry where nests of migratory water birds hatch each year. In addition to birds, guests can see other residents of the Delta such as hippo, crocodile, lion or impala and of course the elephant.

Because Kanana Camp is located on a private concession of many square miles, and has a limit of 16 guests, you will feel alone in the wild, at one with nature. There is also a gift shop where locally made items. Young children are restricted to certain periods at this camp - please ask for details.
