Lake Nakuru in the Kenyas Rify Valley is a large alkaline lake protected within a National Park. It is home to millions of birds, the most famous of which are the pink flamingoes which come to feel on the algae that thrives in the warm, shallow waters. The flamingoes actually live and breed at Lake Elementaita, a smaller lake to the south with less predators, but the adult birds visit Nakuru every day to feed.
The Lake is also home to thousands of pelicans. The Lake Nakuru National Park is home to many larger animals, including rhino and leopards.
