(minimum 2 passengers) The ultimate safari to Botswana, exploring the remote areas of the Okavango Delta whilst staying in luxury accommodation.
This luxury itinerary is based around a selection of our favourite lodges in some of the most beautiful locations in Botswana. Our portfolio of properties covers most areas of the country, from islands in the Okavango Delta to the open plains of Chobe National Park. Please contact us with your preferences so we can create the perfect itinerary based on your interests and requirements.
Botswana is one of Southern Africa’s least visited and yet most fascinating destinations. It has a wide variety of habitats, from desert to wetlands and some of the finest game-viewing in Africa. For many years it has concentrated on high quality tourism, limiting the number of visitors annually to ensure that its reserves and parks are not damaged or saturated by mass tourism.
A result of this can be seen in the accommodation available offering you some of the most luxurious and exclusive lodges and camps in the world. This trip takes you to three of these, each beautifully located and offering the best facilities, and yet each in completely different landscapes and offering different types of game-viewing. From the large elephant herds of the plains, to the wetlands of the world-famous Okavango Delta you will get to experience some of the world’s best game-viewing while staying at some of the world’s best camps. The luxury tents you stay in have the facilities of the best hotels and yet also offer the true safari experience out in the African night. Transfers between camps are by light aircraft, saving days of bumpy road transfers. And did we mention that the food is also superb?
If you like the best of everything, then this itinerary is for you. It can, if desired, be extended to finish at the world-famous Victoria Falls.
This is a private tour (minimum 2). It can depart on any day you wish (subject to availability). Please note that game-drives will be done in the lodge’s/camp’s own vehicles/boats and will be shared with other guests.
Please let us know you preferred dates and we will forward a full tailored itinerary with confirmed quotation to you by e-mail and/or post.
Day 1
Depart the UK in the evening.
Day 2
After a non-stop flight to Johannesburg, you connect to your flight to Maun. On arrival at Maun Airport you will be met by our representative and
transferred by light aircraft to your first camp in the Linyanti Reserve. This is
an enormous private concession, comprising of nearly 300,000 acres of prime
wilderness area in the far north-east of Botswana. It is bordered to the north
by the Linyanti River, and to the east by the Chobe National Park, and
contains two thirds of the length of the mysterious Savuti Channel. Apart from
its sheer size, the most remarkable feature of the Linyanti Reserve is the
diverse range of habitats that it encompasses. The Linyanti River is bordered
by floodplains very similar to those of the Okavango Delta, as well as
extensive grasslands, while the interior of the concession consists of vast
mopane forests and acacia bush veldt. This diversity of habitat in turn supports
a wide array of wildlife, and this area is particularly well known for its huge
herds of elephants (probably the largest herds in Africa), and the famous lions of the
Savuti removed (featured in the National Geographic documentaries).
Day 3
Activities include game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, hides, night drives, and walks with an armed guard. Game in the area includes all of Botswana's big game, and is one of the best areas in the country to see predators. There are also good concentrations of plains game in the area. Described as wildlife-packed, Savuti is home to an incredible multitude of animals. Dry season game viewing reveals droves of bull elephants bullying each other around half empty pans while thirsty warthog, kudu and impala wait in the meagre shade. When the rains come, they bring hundreds of birds and a feast for lions and hyenas as thousands of migrating zebra assemble in a chaotic pattern on the marsh. This is Africa at its most opulent - wild animals, ancient rock paintings, tranquillity and endless horizons embellished with countless birds.
Day 4
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your onward flight to your next camp in the Okavango Delta. The 6,000-square-mile maze of lagoons, channels, and islands helps the Okavango Delta earn its description as the river that never finds the sea. The countless islands that emerge from its waterways give rise to several diverse ecosystems which in turn, are home to vast numbers of game and a myriad of birds. The crystal clear waters support many kinds of fish and it is a birder’s paradise. The heart of the delta is accessed by air only and as it is an exclusive destination, it remains relatively unpopulated and untamed.
Day 5
During your stay, activities include morning and afternoon/night game drives in open safari vehicles. Guests can be guaranteed of some fantastic game and bird viewing. A variety of habitats ensures diverse and interesting game viewing. Wildlife seen here includes elephant, lion, zebra, red lechwe, giraffe, tsessebe, wildebeest as well as kudu, impala, leopard and bushbuck. (No caps!) When the annual flood is at its highest (normally May to late September), fishing, boating and mokoro trips are also possible.
Day 6
Today, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your onward flight to your next camp. The Chitabe camps are recognised as dry Delta camps and the
main focus are land based game activities. They are located in an exclusive photographic reserve alongside the Moremi Game Reserve, the reserves boundary in the east - the Gomoti Channel and the Santantadibe River in the west. The area is made up of a superb variety of habitats, which include waterways and marshlands, dry acacia and mopane woodland, riverine areas, open grasslands and seasonally flooded plains. This is classic Okavango scenery country.
The diverse eco-systems in turn make for a wonderful array of wildlife, including elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, and cheetah, as well as most other species of wildlife associated with Africa. Chitabe is particularly famous for the enormous herds of buffalo that move through the concession, and for sightings of the rare and highly endangered african painted wolf or wild dog as it’s known.
Day 7
Activities at Chitabe consist of day and night game drives in open 4x4 vehicles accompanied by an experienced guide. Shorter nature walks are sometimes
offered. Chitabe game viewing is good, and includes buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard, reedbuck, lechwe, impala, zebra, and hippo. Wild dogs are also sometimes sighted. Night drives can be very rewarding with good sightings of the rarer nocturnal animals. Access into this area is only by aircraft.
Day 8
You will be transferred to Maun Airport for your onward flight to Johannesburg. Here you will connect with your overnight, non-stop flight home to the UK.
Day 9
Arrive UK.
