Drivers from 10 different countries will take part in the amazing World Cup Rally across Africa. Starting on New Year's Day 2012 44 cars will start at Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament here in the UK before driving across Europe and travelling the whole length of Africa! This epic endurance driving race will see the competitors cover almost 10,000 miles in one month before ending at the Cape Town Waterfront on January 29, 2012 (hopefully!).
There are several different types of car making the race including mainly classic cars but with a 4x4 category and a family car category to make it interesting. There are also a couple of female crews who are aiming to carry off the Ladies Trophy. The two-man teams must travel independently with no back up crews and no assistance at all allowed meaning they have to fix their own cars en route and get themselves out of any trouble!
The route across Africa starts in Egypt before heading through northern Sudan, Ethiopia,
Kenya , Tanzania, Zambia and
Namibia before crossing South Africa and into
Cape Town. This may offer the most straightforward route across Africa but the race has taken almost three years of logistical planning by the Endurance Rally Association in the UK to get it organised and authorised through so many different countries.
We look forward to watching the race in the New Year and cheering on the teams as they compete in this epic test of endurance.
