Two of Kenya's most famous properties are to undergo major renovation works to improve their facilities and decor. The Ark in the Aberdare National Park and the Aberdare Country Club in the Central Highlands are to have over US$ 4 million spent on them over the next year or so.
The work has been prompted by the purchase of the properties by Marasa Africa and their desire to upgrade the properties to suit the luxury safari market. They already own the Mara Leisure Club.
The Ark is a tree lodge design, built on stilts in the forests of the Aberdare and overlooking a waterhole that is floodlit at night. It is a similar property to the Serena owned
Mountain Lodge . The waterhole, which is also a natural salt-lick, attracts elephants, rhino and leopard amongst other animals, offers excellent game-viewing from either above on balconies or in a ground level gallery. Offering 60 en suite rooms, each is fitted with a buzzer to alert you should something appear when you are not looking.
The Aberdare Country club, situated about two hours drive from Nairobi on the slopes of Mweiga Hill, has been a popular weekend escape for many years and an excellent place to stay at the start of a
safari tour to Kenya. Offering a swimming pool, beautiful gardens with peacocks and even a nine hole golf course, there are antelope, zebra and giraffe roaming the 1,250 acre grounds. With 46 rooms, many with excellent views of Mt. Kenya, it is a peaceful and relaxing property and after the renovations will be an excellent property.
When the work is complete, both properties will be added to the
Real Africa properties collection as options for our clients when planning a tailor-made safari.
