Serengeti Highway Update
The new road that is to cut through the Serengeti will not after all be tarmaced, but left as a gravel road. The announcment by Tanzania President Jakaya Kikwete comes as a great relief to Wildlife experts who had concerns that it would stop or disrupt the migration patterns of many animal species.
The road is planned to help develop the Lake Victoria region of the country by stimulating trade and giving better access to the lake resorts for visitors.
The road will stretch over 50km of the Serengeti National Park but by being left in a gravel state will not pose a concern to animals wishing to cross.
