Floods in Samburu

Heavy rain has made the main bridge between Buffalo Springs and Samburu National Reserves impassible, National Park officials have reported. While the bridge itself is intact, the road either side has been badly damaged. The river has now subsided, leaving most tracks in the park clear and open.

Many of the lodges, situated beside the river for the views, have been damaged by the water, several of them have been closed until the end of March. All our clients due to visit before then have been reprotected in undamaged lodges in case the original ones do not reopen in time. The game-viewing is unaffected and excellent.

The rains fell outside the normal rainy periods, and considering that Samburu was suffering a severe drought this time last year show how the weather patterns are getting less predictable. 5 inches of rain also fell in the Masai Mara during february, well above the normal average.
